Forbes names Scentsy among America’s Best In-State Employers

Publish date

Meridian, Idaho — Scentsy, an international direct sales company that creates flameless candles and other richly-scented home and body products, is one of America’s Best-In-State Employers. This prestigious award is presented by Forbes and Statista, Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.

America's Best-in-State Employers 2022 were identified in an independent survey based on a vast sample of approximately 70,000 Americans working for companies with more than 500 employees in the United States. Across 25 industry sectors, 1,380 employer brands were ranked among the top employers.

The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees who were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, as well answer 52 questions about work-related topics such as working conditions, diversity, salary, potential for development and company image. Employees were also asked to evaluate other employers in their respective industry and state, which stood out either positively or negatively.

Scentsy President and Interim CEO Dan Orchard said Scentsy is honored to be recognized for yet another one of Forbes’ best employers’ categories. Scentsy has previously been named one of Forbes best mid-size employers and most recently named one of Forbes best employers for women.

“We are thrilled to rank No. 1 for our category of packaged goods in Idaho as well as No. 7 for a best employer in Idaho,” Orchard said. “We always strive to be an employer of choice and have made significant changes with expanding several programs in the past few years, as we hope it allows for employees to bring their whole self to work. We’re very grateful to again be recognized by such an esteemed global media publication as Forbes.”

Meridian, Idaho — Scentsy, an international direct sales company that creates flameless candles and other richly-scented home and body products, is being recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Women.

Scentsy President and Interim CEO Dan Orchard said Scentsy is honored to be recognized for yet another one of Forbes’ best employers categories. Scentsy has previously been named one of Forbes best mid-size employers.

“This is the fourth time Forbes has recognized our ongoing efforts to make Scentsy one of the best places to work,” Orchard said. “When co-owners Heidi and Orville Thompson launched Scentsy in 2004, they were looking for a way to empower women and families. They wanted to show there’s a way to run a business and thrive in a career without having to make sacrifices in the most important areas of our lives. We’ve worked hard to create an atmosphere where employees and Consultants feel like one big family. We all play a role, we all are important, and we all have access to the good things that family brings. Our culture and values lend themselves to everyone being included and welcome, and they provide Scentsy Consultants and employees with a true balance between work and life.”

Forbes partnered with research firm Statista to identify the companies leading the way when it comes to supporting women based on an independent survey of 50,000 Americans at companies with 1,000 or more employees. Survey questions focus on respondents’ recommendation of their employer when it comes to working conditions, diversity, parental leave, discrimination and pay equity.

“This award is particularly important to us because it highlights Scentsy’s family focused culture and our position as a leader in the direct-selling industry. We are proud that 58% of our employees are women, as well as 42% of our employee leadership team. This award also highlights the success of this business model for our network of Independent Consultants, which is 94% women.” Orchard said. “This is a tremendous honor for Scentsy, and we are very grateful to be recognized by Forbes.”

Home Sweet Sniff

The way your home smells may be a direct reflection of who you are.

Three in four of 2,000 U.S. adults surveyed echoed that sentiment, with the same percentage of people saying the way a person's home smells can leave a long-lasting impression.

Sixty-nine percent of people worry their homes may smell bad to others. That may be why seven in 10 will do anything to ensure their digs have a good scent.

The average respondent spends $221 per year on items to improve their home’s aroma.

Survey-takers shared how they keep their space smelling fresh – from purchasing liquid potpourri to live pinecones to cookie dough and even a dill pickle-scented air freshener.

Commissioned by Scentsy and conducted by OnePoll, the study also revealed that when having company over, 72% said their homes must smell good beforehand, and 61% hold off from having guests over entirely if their homes aren’t smelling so nice.

According to respondents, the worst smells that can prevent guests are smoke (58%), sink water (57%) and pets (51%).

Meanwhile, respondents said they want to be greeted with something sweet (63%), floral (61%) or even savory (51%) when visiting someone’s home.

People are also concerned about how clean their homes are (45%) and their appearance (42%).

Overall, most love how their home smells (70%), with a similar percentage of people saying they’re used to the scent (68%).

“Fragrance is processed in the brain’s olfactory bulb — which is why it’s so closely tied to memory,” a Scentsy spokesperson said. “Senses like touch, vision and auditory stimulus are processed through a completely different part of the brain — that’s why smells are often more powerful than any other human sense.”

Further, two in three Americans said they’ve given their home a “signature scent.” Many describe the scent as sweet (49%), consistent with their own cooking (47%), their favorite candle (46%) or floral (44%).

They said their home’s scent makes them feel relaxed (63%), happy (54%) or even energetic (53%).

Seventy-seven percent of people said their entire day could be improved when they surround themselves with a good scent. Nine in 10 people who occasionally work from home said their workspace is more enjoyable if their house smells good.

Similarly, 77% of people said doing chores around the home is more enjoyable if their house smells pleasant.

“When you’re feeling low or having trouble focusing, the right scent can make you feel more alert and proactive,” continued the spokesperson.

WHAT DO PEOPLE CARE ABOUT MOST WHEN HAVING GUESTS OVER?

  • How clean it is - 45%
  • How it smells - 43%
  • How it looks - 42%
  • Where guests can sit/relax - 34%
  • Having food prepared - 30%
HOW DOES A SIGNATURE SCENT MAKE PEOPLE FEEL?

Forbes names Scentsy among America’s Best Midsize Employers for third time

Publish date

Meridian, Idaho — Scentsy, an international direct sales company that creates flameless candles and other richly-scented home and body products, is recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers for the third time since the company’s humble beginnings on an Idaho sheep farm in 2004.

Scentsy President and Interim CEO Dan Orchard said Scentsy is honored to be recognized as number 203 among the 500 companies Forbes has acknowledged across the nation.

“I am excited to share that for the third time, and the second year in a row, Forbes has recognized our ongoing efforts to make Scentsy one of the best places to work,” Orchard said.

The recognition comes as Scentsy has enhanced parental leave policies and expanded employee training. Scentsy also continues to offer employees a free on-site fitness center with trainers and intramural leagues, an on-site restaurant and coffee shop, and flexible work arrangements to support its family-focused culture.

Each year, Forbes partners with research firm Statista to compile a list of companies based on an independent survey of 60,000 Americans at companies with 1,000 or more employees. Survey questions focus on respondents’ recommendation of their employer.

“This is a very competitive national award and a tremendous honor for Scentsy,” Orchard said. “We’re very grateful to again be recognized by such an esteemed global media publication as Forbes.”

Boise, Idaho — The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights and Scentsy will announce a new partnership during a virtual groundbreaking ceremony for the center’s new education building from 11:30 a.m. to noon MT Thursday, Nov. 18, in Downtown Boise.

Wassmuth Center Executive Director Dan Prinzing said Scentsy is aligned with the Center’s mission to “promote respect for human dignity and diversity through education and to foster individual responsibility to work for peace and justice.”

“The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights is an education center offering educational programs and resources, and we are grateful for Scentsy’s generous contribution to help us create an inclusive society where Idahoans take responsibility for promoting and protecting human rights, where everyone is valued and treated with equal dignity and respect, and where everyone’s human rights are a lived reality,” Prinzing said.

In 2002 the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights unveiled the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial in Boise, Idaho—the only existing Anne Frank memorial in the United States. The memorial, which is recognized as an international Site of Conscience, is one of the few places in the world where the full Universal Declaration for Human Rights is on public display.

“We are committed to fulfilling our mission to educate, elevate and empower,” Prinzing said. “The Center is designed to be a lantern of hope in the state of Idaho and extend beyond.”

The Wassmuth Center’s new two-story structure will be erected within the footprint of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, making it a one-of-a-kind human rights educational center within a one-of-a-kind human rights memorial.

Scentsy President and Interim-CEO Dan Orchard will speak at the virtual groundbreaking ceremony.

“Together, we see the new education center as a foundation for change within Idaho and beyond,” Orchard said. "Scentsy Co-owners Heidi and Orville Thompson have always sought to establish a cohesion culture at Scentsy, and this is another way we can help make a positive impact. We are honored to play a part in helping create something that has the capacity to impact so many.”

As part of this partnership, Scentsy employees and Independent Scentsy Consultant leaders have also been invited to participate in the Wassmuth Center’s Human Rights Certification program.

The groundbreaking ceremony will livestream on www.wassmuthcenter.org and on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/wassmuthcenter. The new Wassmuth Center for Human Rights building will open in late 2022.

Scentsy again named one of America’s best mid-size employers

Forbes listed Scentsy in the top 100 for 2021

Publish date

Scentsy is in Forbes Top 100 list of America’s Best Mid-Size Employers for 2021. It’s the second time Scentsy has earned this distinction.

Forbes made the announcement on Feb. 9 following a survey of over 50,000 employees who work for American businesses with at least 1,000 employees.

Forbes compiled a list of the 500 best-rated mid-size companies. Scentsy was listed at No. 90.

This recognition underscores Scentsy’s position as a leader in the direct-selling industry and highlights the success of this business model for our network of Independent Consultants and their home-based businesses.

Forbes described the challenges faced by so many companies over the past year, as they adapted to the global pandemic in ways that benefit customers, employees and, in our case, Consultants. They partnered with research firm Statista to survey participants who rated their willingness to recommend their own employer to friends and family.

How Scentsy is responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

A message from Heidi & Orville Thompson

At Scentsy, we talk a lot about family and relationships. Our entire culture is about bringing people together, creating and reliving memories, and lots of hugs. So, when the coronavirus started appearing in headlines and the entire world began shifting, so did we.

As the world battles this pandemic together, we have focused on protecting our customers, Consultants and employees through significant modifications to the way we work to get your favorite fragrance products to you.

Consultants and Scentsy employees have been working safely and diligently to meet demand and deliver on the expectations of those who rely on us to fill their lives with fragrance. During these uncertain times, providing a moment of respite and normalcy is our pleasure, and we’re honored to do our part.

Protecting customers

While circumstances around the world are changing constantly, we remain committed to the safety of our customers by offering simple, contactless ordering through a Consultant’s Personal Website and the ease of setting up recurring shipments of your favorite Scentsy products through our Scentsy Club program. Although we all love a good party, the only parties Consultants are having during this time are online. Check out your Consultant’s website to learn how you can host a party online and still earn Host Rewards. And while Consultants love seeing the smiles on their customers’ faces when they hand-deliver their Scentsy orders, at this time, we recommend all orders be shipped straight from our distribution centers to the customer to reduce the risk of non-essential contact.

Protecting Consultants

Scentsy Consultants are the face of our business, reaching out to millions of Scentsy fans all over the world, often from the comfort and safety of their own homes. So now, more than ever, we are proud to be able to offer a work-from-home business opportunity to more than 130,000 Independent Scentsy Consultants so they can continue to earn commissions and meet their goals. All Consultants can subscribe to a Personal Website where they can sell products, hold virtual Scentsy parties and get new Consultants to join their team — all without needing to meet anyone in person. And with our direct-shipping option, Consultants don’t need to personally deliver products to their customers.

Protecting employees

While Scentsy is able to continue to operate around the world, we have closed all Scentsy buildings to the public and increased our cleaning and sanitizing schedules to protect all employees. Our company gym, breakrooms and gathering places are temporarily closed, and our on-site cafeteria and coffeehouse are operating with restrictions to avoid employee congregation. Signs at all building entrances remind all at-risk or sick employees to not come to work. Our flexible attendance policy lets employees focus on their own personal health as well as their families, if need be. We have implemented ongoing work-from-home schedules for those who are able to perform their jobs remotely. For those who are comfortable and able to work on-site, we have rearranged working areas and employee schedules with respect to social distancing, and everyone is consistently using facemasks and gloves. Ultimately, all employees are encouraged to work with our Human Resources department to determine the best working solution for them and their families.
